Making a Nest Box

Pontyclun, Wales. January 15 2022. Wildlife and countryside management student Morgan Griffiths puts up a nest box on a tree in Talygarn, Pontyclun. This nest box will accomodate a variety of small birds. Providing bird nest boxes for birds is important, as it gives them shelter in the winter months and provides a safe place for them to raise their young in the spring. Many birds, such as the house sparrow, are in decline in the UK, so helping out wildlife when you can is a great thing to do.

Morgan Griffiths is a student at Bridgend college studying Wildlife and Countryside Management. He is eager to help our wildlife, one way he likes to do this is by creating nesting boxes for birds.

Nesting boxes are vital as they provide a safe place for birds to build their nests, protected from the elements and predators. In the winter months, they give visiting birds a place to snuggle together for warmth away from the cold air.

I you are interested in making your own box, please watch Morgan’s short video on how to create a simple box from reclaimed materials.
